When Cathy began FiddlyNess in 2014, she did so out of a love and passion for the tradition of fiddle music in Saskatchewan and Canada. The Emma Lake Fiddle Camp ran for many years and was greatly missed when it finally closed in 2008. Northern Saskatchewan lost a great camp that year.
Music camps are about community and collaboration. Music constantly surrounded you at Emma Lake. The beautiful sunshine and fresh air also provide a beautiful setting, contributing to the joy and happiness created. Friendships are made and nothing beats the excitement and enthusiasm an intensive music camp creates.
The FiddlyNess Fiddle Camp hopes to embody the same ideals and dreams of Emma Lake. In the beautiful northern boreal forest of Saskatchewan, Ness Creek is a hidden gem. We are honoured that they allow us to join them for a week each summer and look forward to filling the fresh northern air with music.
We are so excited for everyone to arrive and begin sharing their music. There are not words to describe our amazing lineup of instructors. We are honoured they all took time out of their busy schedules to join us for a week in the forest.
FiddlyNess is about family, friendship, community, and good music. May everyone who attends experience these feelings in the great outdoors of northern Saskatchewan.
The FiddlyNess group of events has grown to include Shivering Strings Saskatoon, and BanjoNess. Fiddle music, dance and traditional arts and culture are thriving in Saskatchewan, and we are doing our best to help promote and encourage it, along with other organisations across the province. Have a look at what else is happening in Saskatchewan!
